MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The parking lots are full, and people are waiting in line – it's the Thanksgiving holiday at the Myrtle Beach International Airport.
Although there are plenty of people traveling by air, AAA says the number of people flying during Thanksgiving has decreased by about 62 percent since the year 2000.
AAA also notes that only about 6 percent of Thanksgiving travelers will fly this year.
Jo Cornillaud and her husband are flying to Chicago because it's fast and they found good prices on tickets.
"That was a debate we had," explained Cornillaud. "Do we fly? Do we drive? We thought, well if we get on the internet and start really searching the rates, [and] see if we can find something good."
AAA predicts that 86 percent of people traveling this Thanksgiving will drive. They say the reason for that might be because gas prices are about 54 cents cheaper this year, compared to this same time in 2008.
Even though the number of people who fly this Thanksgiving might be down, AAA says the price for an average round-trip ticket has also gone down by about by about 4 percent this year compared to last.
