Quail Creek owner proposes gift of golf course to CCU

Posted: Updated:

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - Coastal Carolina University has announced it could soon acquire the ownership of Quail Creek, an 18-hole golf course located across from campus.

The university's Board of Trustees agreed last week to a gifting proposal by Chestnut Holding LLC, the West Virginia-based company that owns the course. As a part of the agreement, Coastal Carolina will assume the outstanding debt on the land.

Coastal Carolina, in cooperation with Horry-Georgetown Technical College, has taken care of the course since 2004 when it entered an agreement to provide a base of operations for the school's PGA golf management program.

Quail Creek is managed as a public course that also serves as a classroom for students in its golf management program, one of only 20 in the nation accredited by the Professional Golfers' Association of America.

HGTC students play a significant role in maintaining the course through its course management technology program.
