ATLANTIC BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Members of the Atlantic Beach Town Council have voted Tuesday evening to cut-off the pay of suspended mayor Retha Pierce.
Council members came to the decision during an executive session called at Tuesday evening's town council meeting.
While the news may hurt Pierce's wallet, a number of legal charges have been dropped against the suspended mayor. Charges for disorderly conduct and trespassing caved in after an arresting officer failed to appear in court.
The charges stem from an incident in January when Pierce became engaged in an argument over her office at Town Hall.
The dropped charges, however, are not those that resulted in her suspension from office in October by Gov. Mark Sanford. The suspension followed an indictment by a South Carolina grand jury for an alleged hit and run incident on April 10.
Pierce will remain suspended as mayor until the outcome of those charges are decided.
