Federal grant to help Georgetown flooding problems

Posted: Updated:

GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) - Help is on the way for the City of Georgetown's drainage problems, following Monday's announcement of a multi-million dollar grant by U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC).

Graham says the city will receive a federal grant amounting to $2.25 million for drainage improvements on US-17 and at the Georgetown City Hall.

The project aims to reduce frequent flooding and expand system capacities of flood hazard and storm water quality mitigation.

The grants were awarded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency.
