DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) - The South Carolina Department of Transportation is asking for the public's opinion on an upcoming bridge reconstruction project in Darlington County.
SCDOT officials have scheduled a public information meeting for Nov. 5 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Pate Elementary School to discuss the project, located on West Smith Avenue over Swift Creek. Engineers say the bridge replacement is proposed in order to upgrade the existing structure that is showing signs of aging and structural inadequacy.
The meeting will feature a public feedback session and displays for viewing. Officials note the project would affect a quarter of a mile north of West Smith Avenue's intersection with Harry Byrd Highway.
