
MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - An annual horseback beach ride at Lakewood Camping Resort in Myrtle Beach is set to begin Wednesday.
The 28th annual Jack Monroe Beach Ride runs Wednesday through Sunday. The 20-mile ride on the beach offers riders the chance to camp for four nights and five days.
The 2009 ride is expected to draw 2,000 riders and 1,300 horses from across the U.S. and Canada. Funds raised from the event will support research project and educations programs to benefit the American Heart Association.
Event organizers hope to raise $275,000.
The five-day event offers leisure rides, poker runs, parade and costume contests, auctions, dancing and an awards ceremony. There will also be events specially planned for Halloween.
