HARTSVILLE, S.C. (AP) - A man has been charged with boating under the influence after he wrecked his boat on a South Carolina lake, killing a passenger.
Multiple media outlets reported that the cigarette boat flipped during a turn on Lake Prestwood near Hartsville around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The driver, John Newsome III, was rescued, while the passenger, 35-year-old Deagofe Robinson did not come back to the surface.
Divers searched for Robinson for a couple of hours Wednesday and found his body when they returned to the lake Thursday morning.
Department of Natural Resources officers charged Newsome before he was taken to the hospital. A phone listing for him could not be found.
