MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Coastal Carolina University is offering community members a snapshot into their physical health through a low-cost Community Fitness Testing Program.

With increasing healthcare costs, CCU officials say a minimum level of personal fitness and physical activity can sometimes be the best form of health insurance.

The program has two main focuses: community outreach and offering students in the Exercise and Sport Science Program relevant educational experience.

Evaluations range from $40 to $75, depending on what tests are requested.

The Baseline Profile, which is recommended for beginning exercisers, evaluates five basic components of fitness in about 20 minutes.

The school offers a comprehensive health and fitness evaluation, which involves a 45-minute session with and in-depth analysis of heart disease risk, cardiovascular status and an overall fitness level evaluation.

Participants in the program receive an individualized exercise and lifestyle modification plan upon completion of the tests.

The program is also a partner with the Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in creating public awareness about the new physical activity guidelines, which can be found at www.health.govpaguidelines.

For more information on the program, visit www.coastal.edu/hkss/exercise/fitnessTesting.html  or call 843-349-2807 to schedule an assessment.
