CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Police are looking for a man who they say stabbed his girlfriend inside her Charlotte apartment Tuesday afternoon and then took her two daughters with him.

The assault happened at an apartment located at 313 Benjamin Street.  The mother was critically injured and taken to Carolinas Medical Center.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the suspect is Maurice Jermaine Harris.

Police say Harris took the woman's two daughters with him as he fled the apartment.  An AMBER Alert has been issued.

Harris is 5'10" tall, has shoulder length braids and is wearing a blue and red t-shirt with blue jeans.

Police say Harris may be driving a 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis that was seen leaving the scene.  The vehicle is beige or champagne in color and has four doors with NC tag YRY-7698.

Court records indicate a history of domestic protective order violations issued against Harris and he has been charged in the past with making harassing phone calls, communicating threats and assault on a female.  His last arrest was on May 26, 2009.

The CMPD is in the process of obtaining a warrant for attempted murder against Harris.

They say he should be considered armed and dangerous.  If you see this vehicle or these two girls, you should immediately call 911, police said.
