LONGS, SC (WMBF) - A 47-year-old Longs man was charged Tuesday night with setting fire to his own home.

Joe Preston Martin faces second degree arson charges after officers were called to his home on Pint Circle around 7 p.m. According to police, Martin called them, saying he had burned his house down.

According to Horry County Sgt. Robert Kegler, Martin told investigators he was upset when he found that his wife was not home and lit the mattress on fire in the bedroom.

Martin is currently in custody at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
