Active search for missing teen suspended

Posted: Updated:

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The active search for Brittanee Drexel was suspended Saturday, after weeks of efforts and no clues.

Myrtle Beach Police told WMBF News they will continue the normal investigative process, but they are no longer going out and looking for the girl.

The 17-year-old New York teen had been missing since April 25. Investigators started in Myrtle Beach and extended as far south as Charleston County along the Santee River and Coastal Reserve.

CrimeStoppers of the Lowcountry is offering a reward for any information on Brittanee Drexel's whereabouts.

Frank Morea, spokesman for the organization, says a reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for anyone who may be withholding information on the teen's location.

Drexel was last seen in the area of 11th Avenue South and 20th Avenue South in Myrtle Beach on April 25 after meeting up with friends from her hometown.  Drexel was in Myrtle Beach on spring break, against the will of her mother.

Contact was lost with Drexel and family in New York on Saturday evening, when authorities say she disappeared.

Police say a number of leads surface on her whereabouts, but have led to a dead end.

CrimeStoppers is encouraging anyone with information regarding the disappearance of Drexel to contact the agency at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
