MURRELLS INLET, SC (WMBF) – A Murrells Inlet man stands accused of two sex crimes, one of which involves a minor, according to a news release from the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.
William Henry Myers, 59, of Murrells Inlet, is charged with criminal sexual conduct and sexual exploitation of a minor after allegedly sexually assaulting two women during a photo shoot.
“I find it to be safe," Lisa Campbell said about her neighborhood. "Never heard of anything happening there before. It’s unnerving. It’s unnerving to hear this.”
Campbell lives just houses down from Myers who police say lured two people, one of them is minor, to his home by saying he was a photographer and offered them a paid modeling job.
But Campbell isn’t just a neighbor of Myers, she’s a professional photographer and says this scam is unacceptable and women and men need to be more aware.
“Most photographers are not going to pay you to be photographed by them, they’re going to want you to pay them, so that’s a red flag right there,” Campbell said.
In one instance deputies say a girl went to Myers’ home alone and once there, a Georgetown County deputy told WMBF News that’s when things turned dark.
In the warrant for the other incident, officials say the woman was confined and unable to leave at the time of the sexual assault.
“It’s a different world these days," Michelle Coleman, a local photographer said. "It’s easier than ever to put up a Facebook page and say you have a business. But you really need to do your research. How long has their Facebook page been up? Do they have a professional website. You know, you just want to be extra cautious. Know where you are going and make sure someone knows where you are going.”
Deputies say there could be more alleged victims of this scam out there. If you have information on this case call the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office immediately at 843-546-5102.
