CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – The suspicious package which led to Friday’s evacuation of the Horry County Government and Justice Center was actually a letter that contained a white powder, according to information from the Horry County Sheriff’s Office.
A report states staff with the Horry County Solicitor’s Office received a letter through mail that contained the powder. As a result, the justice center was evacuated and a hazardous materials unit responded.
According to the report, the powder was examined and it was determined to not be a threat to the public. The justice center was declared safe and employees and staff were allowed to return.
The U.S. Postal Service is assisting the HCSO in the investigation, the report stated.
