FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – No injuries were reported during a standoff between authorities in Florence County and a man who had threatened to harm himself.
According to a press release from the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, deputies got a call at 2:45 p.m. Friday about a man threatening to harm himself inside his Springbranch Road residence. They said he admitted to having a firearm in his possession and if law enforcement approached, he would point the weapon at them and force deputies to shoot him.
When the first deputies arrived, they found the person in a vehicle outside the home. He later left the vehicle and went into the house, the release stated.
At one point, a woman went inside briefly, but left shortly thereafter, according to authorities. It was then confirmed the man was alone inside the house and barricaded in a room.
The FCSO’s SWAT team and specially trained crisis negotiators were called to the home. After an hour and 45 minutes, negotiators were able to convince the man to surrender, the release stated.
Once the standoff ended, the person was taken to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment. No injuries were reported and no charges are expected at this time, according to authorities.
