MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – An accident in front of Grand Strand Medical Center Saturday night led to one man’s arrest on stolen gun and drug trafficking charges.
Myrtle Beach Police responded to a vehicle accident in front of the hospital Saturday night just after 10 p.m., where a black Jeep was pointing north in the southbound lanes of Hwy. 17 Bypass. The driver of Jeep was seen stumbling away from the vehicle, walking down the hill toward Marina Parkway, according to a MBPD report.
The driver attempted to flee, and police say “a use of force occurred” as an officer detained the suspect. Nearby, police say they found a stolen handgun, and they arrested 26-year-old Shamiar Deshawn Smith.
When he was booked at the jail, a white powdery substance was found in Smith’s pocket. When a police officer searched near the area where Smith was arrested, “numerous plastic bags of narcotics” were discovered. When tested, those substances were confirmed to be cocaine, heroin, marijuana and crack.
Warrants were taken out of Smith for possession of a firearm by convicted felon, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm during a violent, trafficking heroin and trafficking crack cocaine.
