MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Sunshine and milder weather will return today, but be followed by a strong cold front late Tuesday.
A storm system several hundred miles off shore continues to spread clouds across the area this morning, but all the rainfall is remaining just off shore. As the system pulls away through today, skies will clear and turn mostly sunny by this afternoon. The sunshine will help to warm temperatures into the middle and upper 50s by this afternoon.
Tonight will see fair skies and temperatures in the lower 40s.
A powerful cold front will approach the region on Tuesday. Ahead of the front, southwesterly winds will help to warm temperatures to 60 degrees by the afternoon. During the late afternoon and evening, the cold front will push through the region and be accompanied by a brief round of showers.
The front will push off shore Tuesday evening and much colder temperatures will flow in behind it. By Wednesday morning, temperatures will drop into the middle and upper 20s.
The core of the cold weather will settle across the Carolinas Wednesday and Thursday with daytime temperatures only in the lower and middle 40s. Wednesday night will be the coldest with temperatures dropping into the lower and middle 20s.
Milder weather will gradually start to return starting on Friday and continuing into the weekend.
