HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - After experiencing delays with their software system, the Horry County Auditors Office said vehicle tax bills are now on their way to taxpayers and their bills are available to be paid online.
WMBF News received several messages from viewers who didn’t get their January vehicle tax on time an issue County Auditor Lois Eargle said they were aware of and apologize for.
Eargle said that list gets forwarded to their office from QS1, a tax management system, and helps them track who owes taxes.
“We did not have the list of those who needed to pay their taxes for the month of January," she said.
Taxpayers though, won’t be penalized and still have enough time to pay their vehicle tax. Eargle said you still have 15 days from the time you get your bill to pay your vehicle tax. Eargle said she knows it’s frustrating to run into problems like this and apologizes for any inconvenience.
“The tax system is complex anyhow and as you well know people don’t like to pay the taxes and I can understand that too. and I just really feel bad about an inconvenience for the taxpayers... especially if they come in and want to pay," said Eargle.
The treasurers' office said they’ve received many calls regarding vehicle taxes. Some people waiting in line at the treasurers' office say they were wondering what was taking so long. Eargle said different departments helped the auditors office to get through the issue.
“I will tell you administration upstairs has been on it with QS1 and they really have been really cooperated with us greatly.”
In a statement, Horry County said, “Bills are now available online and can be paid online for free via e-check." Notices are being printed now and should be in mailboxes in the next few days. If you have questions about your vehicle tax notice, please call the County Auditor’s Office at (843) 915-5050.”
If for some reason you don’t get your bill in the mail, Eargle said to come into the auditor’s office.
