Police: Fire at vacant Latta home appears suspicious

LATTA, SC (WMBF) – Police are investigating an apparent suspicious fire last week at a vacant home in Latta.

According to Latta Police Chief Derrick Cartwright, the fire happened around 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 4 at a residence on East Leitner Street. He added the home had no power and it appeared no one was living in the residence. A neighboring home, which was also vacant, sustained damage as a result of the blaze.

Cartwright said it is his understanding some abandoned homes in Dillon County have also caught fire.

The investigation is ongoing. If you have any information or have video surveillance showing anyone in the area around the time of the fire, call Latta police at 843-752-4718. You can also email tips to lattapd@townoflatta.org.
