Longs-based sandwich company recalling products due to possible contamination

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The Longs-based Grand Strand Sandwich Company is recalling a number of its products due to potential contamination.

According to information from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the products being recalled are Lunch Box Italian Subs, Lunch Box Ham & Swiss Croissants, and Lunch Box Ham & Cheese Frozen Wedges. The recall is due to a potential contamination of listeria, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

No illnesses have been reported at this time, according to the FDA.

The products were distributed between Dec. 17, 2018 and Jan. 4. They were packaged in clear plastic and sold primarily in convenience stores and vending machines located in North Carolina and South Carolina.

The products being recalled are:

  • Italian Subs - 7 oz package
  • Ham & Swiss Croissants - 5 oz package
  • Ham & Cheese - 4.5 oz package
