Gas leak contained at Francis Marion University after truck struck propane tank

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - Buildings and roads are back open after a truck delivering materials to the Francis Marion University campus Monday afternoon accidentally struck the cap on a propane tank releasing propane gas.

In a press release from FMU it is said the incident happened near the Hyman Fine Arts Building. Out of an abundance of caution, Hyman and the adjacent Grille restaurant were evacuated and Heyward Drive was closed between Alumni Drive and Wallace Woods Road.

Technicians came to campus and removed the gas and the situation was normalized by early evening.
