BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The suspect injured in a trooper-involved shooting in the Shallotte area Tuesday night has died, according to officials with the N.C. State Highway Patrol.

According to a news release, Trooper S.A. Collins initiated a traffic stop on Holden Beach Road just before 9 p.m. when the incident occurred. Sgt. Investigators found the suspect, later identified as 28-year-old Brandon Lovell Webster of Shallotte, a short time later at the Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center. Knox said that Webster died from his injuries after arriving at the hospital.

Collins, who has been with the State Highway Patrol for one year and is assigned to Troop B District 6 in Brunswick County, has been placed on administrative duty pending an internal investigation, as per agency protocol.

The State Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation at the request of the State Highway Patrol, according to Knox.
