CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - It’s Friday night in Conway and things are busier than usual. Holiday shoppers are out late. They’ve got the green light to do so.. thanks to a non-profit organization.
Conway Downtown Alive is designed to generate economic development and promote the town.
“We love Conway on Christmas,” says Eddie & Holly from Georgetown. “We’re always up here.”
Stores are open later which gives shoppers like Debbie Bianco extra holiday spirit.
“Everybody used to decorate their shops like this,” the Upstate New York native says. “You don’t see this anyplace else.”
Owner of Curtain N Things Angie Johnson is the exception. She’s been in Conway all her life, and CDA never gets old to her.
“They love being able to come out at night and bring their family,” she describes with a smile. “We gift wrap free so we’re constantly wrapping gifts for them and it’s just an old time feel. It takes you back to your childhood.”
Emily Smith owns Good Day Sunshine. Her store usually closes at 4. Today, it was 7 o’clock to accommodate the crowds.
So I asked her, “What makes Conway so special this time of year?”
“We’re moving towards having a lot more walking traffic downtown. A lot of really good stuff going on,” she said. “The evenings have been fantastic in December.”
With times now extended at several stores, shoppers are able to advantage of it through Christmas Eve.
