SC man posts deer fawn for sale on Facebook gets charged and fined by SC DNR

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - South Carolina Department of Natural Resources investigated a Facebook post trying to sell a live deer fawn over the weekend after receiving numerous complaints.

SCDNR investigators identified and contacted the person who posted the status via social media.

They determined the poster had no intention of actually selling the fawn and they didn’t possess the deer. He was attempting to trick people into wiring him money via a cash app for the deer who’s the picture he found online.

After officers explained the issues and the illegality of trying to sale protected native wildlife the poster admitted he took it too far and it was supposed to be a joke.

The subject was charged with offering to sell protected native wildlife and was fined.

If you come across any potential state game, fish or boating violations, please contact our Law Enforcement Division directly at 1-800-922-5431.
