Man charged following standoff with Florence police

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - Florence police have arrested a man in connection with an armed robbery that ended in a standoff with officers.

According to a Florence Police Department press release, Lee Roy Cook is charged with two counts of attempted murder, five counts of kidnapping and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

On Saturday, the suspect allegedly started shooting at an officer along West Lucas Street as the officer responded to the armed robbery.

Police said Cook ran from the officer and barricaded himself inside the Family Dollar on West Lucas Street.

Several people were reportedly inside the store at the time, but were able to make it out safely.

When the FPD’s tactical team arrived, they took the suspect into custody.
