HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Shots were fired into Anthony’s Pizza and Pan Pasta, a restaurant on Glenns Bay Road in Surfside Beach.
The restaurant was closed during the time of the incident and no one was hurt.
Officers responded to the incident at about 11:35 p.m. Monday, Horry County Police Department spokesperson Mikayla Mosgov said.
She added that an alarm had been activated and upon arrival, authorities learned the front glass of the restaurant had been broken.
The restaurant owner said one of the bullets hit a sprinkler, prompting it to go off and flood the inside.
“The owner is a pillar of the community. He’s a wonderful man, it’s a family business; his son works there as well. It’s a shame that something like this has happened and I hope they find out who did it because it makes you afraid,” said customer Lynn Mallozzi.
Mallozzi added that the family who owns the restaurant is always looking to help those in need, and she’s heartbroken to hear about the incident.
“During Hurricane Florence the owner and his family gave out over 300 pizzas to people who didn’t have anything. So to hear this happened to someone so nice, and now they’re not going to be open? It’s the holidays and everyone knows that’s when a lot of companies make good money," said Mallozzi.
The owner declined an interview Tuesday, but told WMBF News that his biggest concern is for his 14 employees who will be without work for the next few days.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
The Horry County Police Department is investigating.
