Conway officials say Highway 501 Bypass will close in both directions as flood barrier removal project continues

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – The South Carolina Department of Transportation is possibly planning to shut down Highway 501 Bypass in both directions between 1:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. Wednesday to shift travel lanes from the southbound lanes to the northbound lanes as work to remove the flood prevention project continues, according to a post from the city of Conway.

The city says they do not know how long the closure will last.

During this time all southbound traffic on Hwy 501 will be diverted onto Millpond Rd to Hwy 501 Business. All northbound traffic on Hwy 501 will be diverted onto Hwy 501 Business near the 501 Business/Bypass split, the post says.

Please avoid this area if at all possible and use alternate routes of travel.

We have been advised that SCDOT is planning possibly between 1:30pm and 2:00 pm today they will be shutting down Hwy 501...
